Veterans & their families
Bathroom changes that fit the way you live now
Whether it is an old injury, a newer mobility change, or simply wanting to stay independent at home, we help Houston-area veterans plan bathrooms that work.
Does Houston Shower & Bath work with veterans?
Yes. We design and install walk-in and curbless showers, seating, grab bars and other accessibility changes for veterans across the Houston area. We are an independent remodeling company, not part of or endorsed by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
How we can help
Veterans tell us about many different needs: difficulty stepping into a tub, limited balance or strength, using a wheelchair or walker, or an injury that makes standing in the shower tiring. We listen first, then plan changes around you.
Easy or zero-step entry
Low-threshold and curbless showers in place of a tub, where your floor and drain allow.
Wheelchair-friendly layouts
Curbless entry, room to turn and wider openings, where the space allows.
Seating & support
Built-in or fold-down seats and properly anchored grab bars placed for how you move.
Reachable controls
Handheld showers and lever controls you can use comfortably while seated.

Does the VA help pay for bathroom modifications?
Sometimes, for eligible veterans. The VA offers grants that can help with home changes, but each has its own rules and the VA decides who qualifies. Not every veteran is eligible, and a remodeling company cannot approve or guarantee a grant.
VA programs you may hear about
- HISA grant (Home Improvements and Structural Alterations). Offered through VA health care for medically necessary changes, such as improving access to the bathroom. It usually starts with a prescription from your VA provider. HISA information on VA.gov
- SAH and SHA grants (Specially Adapted Housing and Special Home Adaptation). For veterans with certain service-connected disabilities, to adapt a home they own or will own. Disability housing grants on VA.gov
Amounts and rules change, so always check the current details on VA.gov or with your VA care team.
How applying works
The veteran applies directly to the VA. We do not apply on your behalf, and we are not a VA-approved or VA-affiliated contractor unless we tell you otherwise in writing. What we can do:
- Visit your home, measure and talk through options that meet your needs.
- Provide a written, itemized estimate, which grant applications usually ask for.
- Answer questions about the work itself, so you can discuss it with your VA team.
You are under no obligation to use us if your grant is approved, and you can of course choose to pay for your project without any grant at all.
A word of caution about “veteran bathroom programs”
You may see ads promising a special government bathroom program, or a free remodel, for all veterans. Be careful. Real VA grants have specific eligibility rules and are applied for through the VA itself. If an offer sounds too good, check it against VA.gov before sharing personal information.
Houston Shower & Bath does not offer special veteran discounts or programs at this time. We simply aim to treat every veteran, and every customer, with respect and straight answers.
